Why should it take five hours for two people to play a round of golf? The correct answer is, it shouldn't, yet it is routine on the PGA Tour. Let's be honest, guys are just taking to darn long to play shots and it filters down to the most casual of golfers. I watched a guy playing his 6th shot on the green at my course the other day doing a 360 like a tour pro before he missed his 4 footer. I'm not saying we should rush anyone but there has to be a reasonable middle ground.
What's the answer? How about a shot clock? I don't mean install a timer at each tee and green and start it when a player is up. Rules officials can randomly time a person and see if they are meeting the designated time frame for playing a shot. But you may say, these guys are playing for a lot of money. Yes they are. So are football and basketball players, yet they have to make plays in an allotted time frame. No reason that golfers can't. If I were the boss, I would give them 30 seconds. First offense, a warning. Second, two shot penalty. Third, disqualification. That's my suggestion. What's yours?
