Learn to Analyze Club Face, Grip and a Players Glove with Every Lesson

The next time you start a lesson with a student take a few minutes to analyze the club faces, grips and the glove of your student.
When looking at the club faces of your students clubs, look for marks where the student has been making contact with the golf ball. If the marks are near the center of the club face you will know that the student has a good swing and clubs that fit.
If the student has marks on the toe of the club then the student has an over the top swing path and or the clubs are to flat or short.
If the student has marks on the heel of the club then the student may have a swing that comes to much from the inside and clubs that may be to upright.
Next take a look at the grips on your students clubs. If the grips are worn or slick you should recommend some new grips. You should look for any wear marks on the grip especially near the thumb for any indentions caused by gripping to tightly. Indentions or wear marks on the grip of a club will help you indentify if a player has a grip that is too tight or puts too much pressure on the thumb which is detrimental to the golf swing.
Finally ask to see your student's golf glove. Notice the wear marks on the palm of the glove, if you see a lot of wear or tears then you should know that your student has a poor grip and is re gripping at the top of the swing.
Looking at these three things can help you as an instructor understand a lot about your student before they even take a swing.
